Surface Preparation

Proper surface preparation guarantees an enduring paint finish. All loose paint must be removed and all surfaces sanded to open wood pores for better adhesion. Holes must be filled with a quality wood filler. For exterior surfaces, I only use alkyd primers which penetrate deeper than latex. After priming, all cracks are caulked and I then followup with 2 coats of a high quality latex topcoat.

Repairs

Serious wood decay requires damaged areas to be replaced. Period woodwork provides character to your home and I believe it should be preserved when possible. This repair splices a piece of pressure treated 2×4 using a urethane adhesive.

Creative Solutions

Sometimes a surface looks tired but the replacement cost is high. Specialty paints are constantly evolving and sometimes offer a lower cost, yet durable solution. This ceramic tile floor has been thoroughly cleaned, painted, and protected with a urethane finish.

A little About me

I grew up in the Guelph area and started painting during my summers while in university. Soon I started my own painting company and within a few years bought my first house – a stone, semi-detached, “handyman special”. Many skills were learned and improved in that house and over the years, I have purchased and renovated 7 houses in the downtown area, working with other trades and gaining valuable experience.

My goal is to provide service in the downtown Guelph area, doing  small jobs to enhance and preserve the historical homes in our neighbourhood.
